The custodian's chair from the Budapest Körszálló - Upcycled soc-modern
Steel tube frame chair, once used by the Hotel’s custodian, revived by TIKTIK Studio.
The Körszálló (officially Hotel Budapest) was built in 1967, designed by architect György Szrogh.
A striking example of late modernist architecture, the 18-story cylindrical tower became an icon of Budapest’s 12th district. Its 360-degree panoramic restaurant and futuristic silhouette made it unique in the city’s skyline.
Over the decades, it hosted numerous foreign dignitaries and celebrities, including actor Roger Moore, Nobel Prize-winning writer Heinrich Böll, filmmaker Bernhard Wicki, actor Jacques Charrier, and world traveler Thor Heyerdahl.
Despite its cultural and architectural significance, the hotel is now being demolished to make way for a new luxury apartment complex, sparking public debate about heritage and preservation.
The old, worn paint was removed using laser surface cleaning and replaced with a new matte black powder coating. The wooden planks were also replaced, and the upholstery is made from dark, deep black wool, padded with new foam cushions.
Materials:
Steel frame
100% wool upholstery
Each piece is unique, made with care and intention.
